about us
We are Blair and Emily Frye (sons Cameron and Marshall). I (Emily) have a problem – I have re-landscaped EVERY yard of every house I’ve ever owned. Little did I know 20 years ago when we moved from an apartment into a house with a yard – I would become a flower farmer. In 15 years, we transformed 3 properties.
But, we got the itch again. In 2019 we relocated to our forever home! 16 acres full of potential. The hardest part was moving to another blank canvas. All the house beds were either burned by weedkiller from the past or overgrown with poison ivy.
Grief can often bring about growth. One month after we arrived at the farm, Blair’s father, Dave, passed away after a long fight with aggressive Alzheimer’s. Dave was the MOST personable person I have ever met! His heart was for people! He spent his retirement years volunteering on local farms in Delaware – just to talk to people and develop relationships. We are confident that if he were still living he would have camped out on our sofa for the three weeks of Christmas tree sales every year – just to meet more people. The ONLY reason that Dave wanted to meet people was to share the faith and hope he had in Jesus Christ – He changed Dave’s life! We pray that this farm will give us the same occasions. We thank Dave for the small inheritance he gave us to invest in others.
Covid gave us the perfect opportunity to remedy the property. 8 of the acres have been dedicated to Christmas trees which will be ready for their first cut in 2028. While we wait, we have: rehabilitated all the “home” landscaping, built raised beds for vegetables, maintained a very active flock of egg-producing chickens, installed pollinator beds, built a greenhouse, and prepared 30 beds for cut flowers.
2023 was our first, very private year, for production. Who wants to share failure with the world, right? But……….it worked! We had an entire summer of productive continuous flowers. We gave away bouquets every week and enjoyed them in our own home.
It’s time! We’d like to introduce – All That’s Fair (flower farm) – a subsidiary of Dave’s Tree Farm. Can you even have a subsidiary before you turn a profit? We’ll take our chances.
We see spiritual and life parallels all around us as we are immersed in the creation of God on a daily basis. We invite you to come experience the peace, respite, and refreshment available here. No place is magical, but in this place, the beauty that surrounds us is a vehicle for growth and introspection – natural, mental, emotional, relational, spiritual.
Please come visit and see why we were drawn here!
frequently asked questions
Visiting Pets
While we love pets – we do have 1 dog, 5 cats, and 50 chickens….our “only” dog takes his guard dog job very seriously. He loves human visitors and enjoys snuggling with cats, but we don’t want him to have a funny reaction to another dog. Additionally, our semi-free range chickens are quite a draw to any dog visitors we have. We want to keep as many hens as possible for egg production.
Supplies for U-pick Evenings
We have field snips and buckets for you to borrow. But, for a more enjoyable experience, you want to bring:
a car container for your bouquet
field friendly shoes
We will happily add water to your buckets to keep bouquets from getting thirsty on the way home. Additionally, our fields are just that: fields. Flower lanes have mowed grass lanes between them. It’s Indiana, weather and field conditions are unpredictable.
Children
We love children -- we have two! While the farm is a fun place, we want children to remain safe and not lost. Children MUST remain with parents at all times.
Property Lines
In order to be respectful to our neighbors, we ask that guests do not cross fence or property lines. Should you want to meander into nature, we will clearly delineate the edge of our farm for you.
Perky Flowers
It is recommended that you submerge the ends of your flowers in water in your buckets as you roam the fields. Once back to the farmstand to pay, we’ll wrap your flowers and then they should remain in water for the remainder of their shelf life. Most bouquets will last fully or partially for just about a week. Change out water every 2 days, and remove spent blooms as they fade.
Do we sell bulk buckets of flowers?
Yes. This must be pre-arranged 3 weeks in advance. Currently we have FOUR U-pick nights scheduled (JUN, JUL, AUG, SEP). We need to preserve field quantities to support these evenings and the expectations of our guests. Bulk flower orders will be charged a per stem fee. Please contact us directly: davestreefarm@yahoo.com
Hiring?
As we are a brand-new business, we are unable to hire extra help this year. As our business grows and we see how profitable we are, we will reconsider for Season 2025.
Special Order Bouquets?
Most definitely. For the best selection, please email us 2 weeks in advance to check current harvest selection and availability. davestreefarm@yahoo.com
Services
We offer:
Volunteers
As noted in hiring, we are a brand-new business. We would welcome local teens who are interested in truly learning floral (or Christmas tree) production. While we cannot pay a wage, we are happy to sponsor any FFA enrolled member
(HHHS – only, no exceptions) with a chapter donation or documented community service hours after hours are donated.
Farmstand
Due to seasonal availability, produce will
change from week to week.
Current prices and products will be posted
Wednesdays here, on Instagram, and Facebook.
For sale items may include: tomatoes, rhubarb,
greens (chard, spinach), okra, garlic, onions, cukes, summer & winter squashes/pumpkins, radishes, carrots, lettuce,
fresh herbs, beans, peas, ground cherries, elderberries,
eggs ( contained free range / organic )
All produce is grown without chemical intervention. While we are not certified organic, we use: sunlight, fresh air, our own soil, beneficial insects to control pests, and our homegrown chicken manure to amend the beds.
Our chickens are fed locally-milled organic grain along with seasonal greens and insects.
Come eat with us!
Farm Tours
We would love to arrange a farm tour. We have worked hard to tuck flowers, foliage, fronds, & food into almost every corner of our farm. Our farm has transformed from a sick (with extra weed killer before our time), barren, empty property to overflowing!
Come visit our herb beds, pollinator bed, cottage bed, woodland garden, chicken enclosures, vine tunnels, native shrub beds, hay meadow, prairie, wildflower patch, woods, creek, wetlands, Christmas tree fields, or raised vegetable garden.
Educating the next generation of growers is immensely important to us. We would love to share what we have learned since we jumped into the world of farming and entrepreneurship.
